How We Score and Verify

This page explains exactly how a build gets its cost breakdown, how a comparison gets its tiered pick, and what “independently verified” means versus “manufacturer-reported.” It exists so you don’t have to trust a pick on our word alone.

Scoring and testing criteria

Builds are costed by pricing every listed item at the time of writing, then rechecked on the review cadence below. A build’s floor footprint and noise level reflect the equipment’s manufacturer-stated dimensions and, where noted, a hands-on impression of the operating noise. Comparisons are scored on the small-space and budget-tier fields that matter for this niche specifically — folded/stored footprint, in-use footprint, weight capacity, noise level, and price — not on generic feature counts.

Where we have not physically tested a product, we say so. This site does not claim a testing lab it doesn’t have, and it does not invent comparative data points that weren’t independently checked.

Spec-source and freshness definitions

Manufacturer-reported: The dimension, capacity, or spec comes directly from the manufacturer’s published listing and has not been independently remeasured.
Independently verified: The spec has been checked against the physical product or a second independent source, not taken solely from marketing copy.
Last verified: The date a build or comparison’s prices and specs were last rechecked. This date is shown directly on the page, near the price and spec fields it covers, not buried in a footer.

How best-for tags are assigned

Tags like renter, small apartment, tight budget, and no-drilling are assigned based on concrete attributes of the build or product: whether it requires wall mounting, its footprint relative to a typical apartment room, its total cost against the site’s tier boundaries, and its noise level relative to shared-wall living. They are not marketing labels applied after the fact.
