On the mat, most budget pairs were already good enough
The rubber mat was where budget barefoot shoes made their strongest case. It is evidence that some premium shoes are built to tolerate harder use.
The mid-tier has a place too. At the other end, premium barefoot trainers such as the Vivobarefoot Motus Strength 2 sit in a very different buying conversation, with That Fit Friend placing it around $190–220.[6] That price can make sense for someone doing aggressive training who cares about overlays, outsole wraps, and long-term upper integrity. It is much harder to justify if the workout is three mat-based strength sessions a week in a living room.
Which home workouts matched barefoot shoes best
Barefoot shoes were easiest to recommend for workouts where stability and foot contact matter more than cushioning. Slow strength work fit that description well: squats, hinges, deadlifts with dumbbells or kettlebells, split squats, step-backs, calf raises, carries in a short hallway, and core work. Mobility sessions also made sense because the shoe did not fight the foot when the ankle, toes, and hips needed to move.
They were less convincing for high-impact cardio in an apartment. If the workout depends on jumping, bouncing, or repeated fast landings, a barefoot shoe makes the floor feel closer, not softer.
